Former South Park writer Toby Morton has launched the satirical website DraftBarronTrump.com, mocking President Donald Trump by encouraging him to send his youngest son, Barron, into the current conflict with Iran.
Over the weekend, the US joined Israel in launching waves of aerial attacks across Iran in an attempt to bring regime change to the country.
Trump labelled the campaign ‘Operation Epic Fury’, and said it would end a security threat to the US, although Israeli Defence Forces used the term “pre-emptive” to justify its attack, meaning that this is not a response to an imminent threat, but rather, as highlighted by the BBC, a “war of choice.”
The US President has been criticised for a lack of consultation with either congress or the American public for the strikes, and many commentators have criticised a perceived lack of concern over the loss of life (according to reports from the BBC, at the time of writing the death toll from the conflict currently stands at 787 people). Many have asked if he would be as indifferent were it his son being sent to fight.
This has prompted a satirical site from Morton, who has achieved notoriety for pre-emptively buying up website names and creating satirical sites, often criticising the Trump administration.
Previously, he registered TrumpKennedyCenter.org, anticipating the current president’s highly criticised move to add his name to arts institution The Kennedy Center. The website’s landing page features pictures of Trump with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
The new site is filled with jokes regarding Barron’s suitability for military service, citing Donald Trump’s “proven genes” and “courage” while showing pictures of the politician appearing to nap in an office chair. It also features fictional testimonials from Barron’s brothers Eric and Donald Jr, as well as the president himself. The Independent has pointed out that Barron’s height, listed at six foot nine inches, makes him too tall for military enlistment.
Morton has promoted the website on social media, along with another site, ResignChuck.com, calling for the resignation of Democratic party leader Chuck Schumer for an alleged lack of opposition to Trump’s actions.
The recent strikes on Iran have led Jack White, a long-time critic of Trump, to mockingly declare “Behold the leader of the ‘Board of Peace’”. Disturbed’s David Draiman, a vocal supporter of Israel and the Trump administration, hit back at the singer’s post.
