Harry Styles says watching Radiohead perform in Berlin inspired him to tour again

Harry Styles has said watching Radiohead perform in Berlin inspired him to tour again.

The former One Direction star will drop his fourth studio album ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally’ tomorrow (Friday March 6). So far, he’s released the hazy dance-pop single ‘Aperture‘, which NME awarded four stars.

Now, Styles has discussed his club-ready record with Zane Lowe, who asked the singer if there was a particular moment that made him want to return to the stage.

“I think dancing in Berlin,” Styles told Lowe, adding: “I went to see Radiohead in Berlin, and felt so part of the audience.” Last year, Radiohead performed a residency in the German capital – along with Madrid, Bologna, Copenhagen and London – for their first shows in seven years.

Styles went on to say that he “had a very clear moment of: ‘This is why I get on stage'”.

“I’m watching this and feeling everything that’s happening around me in the crowd,” he continued. “There’s people picking up each other’s things and people are bringing each other things. It’s this sense of strangers looking at each other and massaging each other’s shoulders when someone’s emotional and looking into the eyes of a stranger and screaming out a chorus together.”

He concluded: “I had a moment of like, ‘I’m there so that people can have this’, you know? I’m soundtracking this.”

Watch the moment below at around 24 minutes 38 seconds:

Styles has previously cited dance-punk icons LCD Soundsystem as inspirations to tour as well, telling BBC Radio 1: “I went to see LCD Soundsystem a couple times. I saw them at a festival in Madrid, that was in like a car park, basically, and then I saw them again at Brixton, and it was just so joyous.”

“When you’re watching them be so immersed in it, I think the inspiration from them came of like, ‘oh, that’s how I want to feel when I’m on stage’. And then that kind of led to the kind of music I was making,” he added.

NME reviewed ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally‘, giving it four stars and calling it a “triumph”: “Largely, Styles taking a new approach to things really works – ‘Kiss All The Time…’ feels like an album that you’ll really want to spend a lot of time with, letting all its layers envelope you”.

Styles will soon take his record to the stage in a series of residencies. The ‘Together Together’ tour will take place in seven cities, with Styles originally announcing six shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, 30 dates at New York’s MSG, and a set of concerts in Mexico City, São Paulo, Amsterdam, Melbourne and Sydney.

In total, Styles will play 50 dates from May to December, with Robyn, Shania Twain, F******, Jorja Smith, Jamie xx, Fousheé and Skye Newman acting as openers. Styles will also donate £1 from each ticket sold on his UK leg to LIVE’s grassroots levy. Tickets for the Wembley shows are on sale here, while you can purchase New York tickets here.

Elsewhere, Harry Styles has said former bandmate Liam Payne’s death made him re-evaluate how he saw life.
