Johnny Depp is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a sixth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

Based on the beloved Disneyland ride, Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl was released in 2003 and starred Depp as Jack Sparrow, a shambling, rum-loving pirate who became an ally to hero Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) as he attempted to rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).

Jack Sparrow became a worldwide sensation and relaunched Depp’s career, elevating him to one of the highest grossing stars of the 2000s. All three stars would return for 2006 sequel Dead Man’s Chest and 2007 follow-up At World’s End.

Jack Sparrow would be the focus of two further movies, 2011’s Pirates Of The Carribean:On Stranger Tides, and 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales (aka Salazar’s Revenge in the UK). Now, the producer of the franchise, Jerry Bruckheimer, has revealed he is in discussions with the star to bring him back to the role. “We’re talking with Johnny,” he told Deadline. “We’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”

Johnny Depp has often credited a musical influence for his character – Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards. The pair are friends and the actor famously saw Sparrow as a cross between the guitarist and cartoon character Pepe Le Pew. The pair have been long-time friends, with Depp narrating the audiobook for Richards’ autobiography Life, and in 2011 the star shared his anxiety about what he thought Richards would think of the imitation.

“For a good portion of the time I was spending with him, I was sponging as much of him as I possibly could for the character,” he said at the time, “and when he found out what I’d been doing, it could’ve gone either way, but he was very nice about it, like ‘I had no idea mate!’ He was very sweet about it.”

In May, Secret Cinema announced an immersive experience based on Pirates Of The Caribbean, which launches in 2027.
