The Inbetweeners reboot is said to be stalled due to an issue between stars Emily Atack and James Buckley, according to tabloid reports.

The beloved sitcom followed the lives of four misfits teenagers and became a ratings hit, running for three seasons between 2008 and 2010. There were also two movies in 2011 and 2014.

It was revealed this month that the characters would be making a comeback in the form of a new movie for Netflix, however The Sun is reporting that the project is being delayed by a personal issue between Atack and Buckley.

The outlets claims that Atack was absent from the films due to a previous romantic association with Buckley, who reportedly did not want her involved. The article then claims that this previous exclusion has left Atack in two minds as to whether or not to return as Charlotte, Will’s (Simon Bird) love interest in the show.

An anonymous source told the publication: “She hasn’t forgotten what happened last time. She was absolutely furious that she wasn’t invited back for the previous Inbetweeners reunion, and she has never really got over the way she felt she was treated. Emily’s attitude is basically, ‘Why do you want me now when I wasn’t good enough then?’”

They then claimed: “Emily and James Buckley have history, and there is no getting away from the fact that it would be awkward having to work closely together again.”

Neither Atack nor Buckley have publicly commented on the article. Atack was most recently seen in the Disney+ show Rivals, while Buckley appeared in 2026 film Mother’s Pride.

Last year, The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas said he felt any reunion between the characters would have to bring the same mishaps. “I think wisdom does not make a very good narrative,” he told The Sun.” “The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent.”
