IAMDDB hits back at Israeli government “stealing her identity” by using AI-generated version of her likeness

“I stand for humanity. I stand against the killing and suffering of innocent people. And I stand for every artist's right to decide what their name, face and work are associated with” The post IAMDDB hits back at Israeli government “stealing her identity” by using AI-generated version of her likeness appeared first on NME.

IAMDDB has hit out at the Israeli government for allegedly “stealing” her identity in an AI-generated video.

The clip in question was allegedly posted on Israel’s official social media pages last week (Thursday October 15), and showed a woman reciting lyrics including: “Colonisers? Say the name. Jews from Judea, it’s in the damn name” (via MixMag).

The post has now been deleted. Outlets including Manchester Evening News have reported that the video was AI-generated and was posted with the caption “‘GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!’ We did.”

In the clip, the AI-generated person performing bore a resemblance to Portuguese-born, Manchester-based rapper IAMDDB, and a photoshoot she did for a Crack profile back in 2018.

Taking to X, the rapper called out those running the account, writing: “Hiya yeah so – why did you steal my identity for something I 100 per cent did not consent to?”

She also took to Instagram to double down on that statement, saying that she does “not support genocide, the killing of innocent people, or the suffering of women, children and families”.

“It has come to my attention that Al-generated visuals resembling me have been used in a video shared by the official Israeli government account.,” she wrote. “I want to make it absolutely clear that I did not authorise, approve, participate in, or consent to my image or likeness being used in this video. I have no involvement in its creation or its message.”

She continued: “I have always approached my music and my art from a place of love, freedom, humanity and connection. I do not support genocide, the killing of innocent people, or the suffering of women, children and families. My heart is with every innocent person experiencing loss, displacement and violence, especially the Palestinian people who have endured unimaginable.”

She went on to say that while she has “performed in Israel in the past”, that performance was organised “at a time when I did not have the awareness or understanding of the situation that I have today” and that she agreed as she was “a young artist grateful for the opportunity to travel, perform and experience a part of the world I had never imagined I would see.”

“Had I understood then what I understand now, I would have made a different decision. That performance should not be taken as an endorsement of any government’s actions, past or present,” she wrote.

“My identity, my artistry and my image are not available to be used without my consent to promote political messaging. I am deeply concerned by the use of Al to create the appearance of an artists involvement in something they never agreed to.

“I stand for humanity. I stand against the killing and suffering of innocent people. And I stand for every artist’s right to decide what their name, face and work are associated with.
My image is mine. My voice is mine. My values are mine. FREE PALESTINE.

She posted the update with the caption: “Official statement regarding @stateofisrael using A.I generated versions of my likeness without permission. Peace to the Middle East.”

IAMDDB’s latest album was ‘LOVE Is WAR, Volume 6’ which dropped in February 2024.
