Famed DJs Marshmello and Alison Wonderland are to play the Pokémon Night Out celebration concert in London next month.

Taking place at The O2 on November 10, the massive dance party forms part of Pokémon‘s ‘What’s Your Favourite?’ campaign commemorating 30 years of the iconic media franchise.

Both artists have worked closely with The Pokémon Company International to create bespoke mixes and visuals for the show, which will be the second and final Pokémon Night Out following a sister event in Los Angeles on October 24.

“I grew up with Pokémon, so to do this, especially on the 30th anniversary, is just such an honour,” Marshmello said ahead of the event. “I’m so excited to play a very special, very curated, unique set for everybody there.”

The global DJ and producer – who is known for arena-filling dance anthems like ‘Happier’, ‘Friends’, ‘Silence’, ‘El Merengue’ and ‘Leave Before You Love Me’ – also teased big-screen cameos from Pokémon icons including his personal favourite, Mewtwo.

“I would say that for this show specifically, it’s been really fun to work off all the visual moments that we have planned as well,” he said. “You know, DJing in itself is kind of freestyling. That’s kind of the magic behind it all. But on the other end of the spectrum, it’s very calculated and meticulous, and [this show is] a very specific experience that I have never given before. So to be able to do that for you guys is going to be awesome.”

The Pokémon universe began with a pair of role-playing games that were released on Game Boy in February 1996. After these games became massive word-of-mouth hits, the Pokémon franchise evolved and expanded to include manga series, a trading card game, anime series and films. Thirty years on, Pokémon is a global household name that is widely recognised as the highest-grossing media franchise in history.

The Pokémon Company has collaborated with popular musicians before, including Katy Perry on the upbeat 2021 pop banger ‘Electric’ – which celebrated the brand’s 25th anniversary. Post Malone performed a virtual concert for Pokémon Day the same year and, more recently, Pokémon partnered with world-famous Japanese virtual singer Hatsune Miku in 2023 for a project that explores all 18 Pokémon types through song.

Back in February of this year, the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations were officially launched with a ‘What’s Your Favourite?’ video featuring Lady Gaga, BLACKPINK‘s JISOO, Trevor Noah, F1 driver Charles Leclerc, Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko, Spanish soccer star Lamine Yamal and actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Each of them picked their favourite Pokémon icon – selecting the likes of Zygarde, Luxray and Eevee.

Award-winning DJ, producer and singer Alison Wonderland, who hails from Sydney, Australia, told NME that signing up for Pokémon Night Out as part of the anniversary celebrations was an “easy yes” for her.

“Honestly, I’ve always wanted to have Pokémon visuals anyway. And now here we are, and I’m working with the legit ones!” she said. “It’s just kind of surreal for me. And like I say, it’s keeping that inner child alive.”

Wonderland, who this year has performed at festivals like Lollapalooza in Chicago, said that Pokémon Night Out will definitely “feel like a rave” when she takes to the stage.

“I think there’s a huge crossover between electronic music fans and fans of Pokémon,” added Wonderland, who released her fourth studio album, ‘Ghost World’, last December.  “A lot of people make little trinkets to bring to raves, and I’ve noticed that quite a lot of those trinkets are actually Pokémon-themed.”

Pokémon Night Out will take place at The O2 in London on November 10. The last remaining tickets are available here, starting from £30.
