The inaugural London showcase will celebrate the diversity and creativity of contemporary Japanese music The post Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Otoboke Beaver, Hitsujibungaku announced for first ever European ‘Matsuri’ music festival in London appeared first on NME.

The Japanese music showcase ‘Matsuri’ is heading to London for the first time later this year, and will host performances from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Otoboke Beaver, and Hitsujibungaku.

Set to take place on December 14, the Japanese Music Experience will make its European debut at Outernet Live, and brings together an all-female line-up of three diverse Japanese artists who are making waves internationally.

On the bill are Hitsujibungaku, a Japanese indie band who have 200 million streams worldwide and featured in the hit anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. They are joined by J-pop star, hyperpop singer and Charli XCX collaborator Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who has received praise from Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga for her colourful Harajuku-inspired style.

Also on the bill are Japanese punk rock stars Otoboke Beaver, who have hit the road with huge names including Green Day, Jack White, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis over the years.

“I’m so excited to be performing in London again for the first time in a year,” said Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. “I’m especially looking forward to sharing the stage this time with such a wonderfully diverse group of Japanese female artists, each with their own unique character and style. I’ll give it everything I’ve got to share the magic of Japanese music with everyone in London!”

Otoboke Beaver shared: “We’re honoured and excited to be asked to play Matsuri London. We’re travelling all the way to London especially for this event, and we look forward to seeing everyone there. See you under the mirror ball!”

Tickets go on sale on Friday (November 6) at 10am GMT. Visit here for tickets and more information.

The event is presented by Music Way Project and arrives following a boom in the popularity of Japanese music over the past few years, with artists including Ado, BABYMETAL, Hatsune Miku, Joji all playing at The O2 in London in the time since 2024.

For Hitsujibungaku, the slot at ‘Matsuri’ will be their first UK show since they dropped their fifth album ‘Don’t Laugh It Off’ in 2025, and for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the performance takes place as she is gearing up to drop a new album in 2027, which will likely feature recent singles ‘Pang Pang Pang’ and ‘Tsukihime’.

As for Otoboke Beaver, the punk quartet has not released an album since 2022’s ‘Super Champon’, but did share a three-track single called ‘Is the New Album Out Yet?’ back in the spring.
