British wrestler Charles Crowley has spoken about his Star Wars: Galactic Racer character Biddy Blas going viral.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched earlier this month, giving players the chance to compete in high-octane races across the Star Wars universe.

The game is “a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim,” explains an official description. “With the Empire gone and the galaxy rebuilding, The Galactic League is created: an underground, unsanctioned circuit where syndicates bankroll chaos and champions are forged.”

Players can choose from an unlockable roster of 19 different characters to race as and despite the line-up featuring movie favourites Sebulba and Ben Quadinaros, it’s Biddy Blas that’s become an instant hit.Based on one of the game designer’s “very angry” dogs, Biddy Blas was created to embody the spirit of rage as well as being both a sore loser and winner.

And it’s one of those grumpy encounters with Biddy Blas that’s gone viral. Trying to intimidate you in his native language, Blas says “here’s a name for you, amateur! Biddy Blas. Write it down. Tattoo it on your arm, and someday your arm will be worth millions.” Instead of saying “write it down” Blas says “scrib doon”, which has inspired countless memes.

In a new interview with the BBC, Biddy Blas’ voice actor Charles Crowley has spoken about the virality of the character. “I liked to think he was gonna’ be popular because of the work we did, and I was really proud of him. And then day one, it kicked off. I was like, ‘Oh great everyone’s happy’,’ especially Star Wars fans because they’re such passionate fans. ‘This is a big win.’ And then I went to sleep.

“When I woke up, it was a whole different ballgame,” he continued. “Not just the Star Wars community, but the gaming community and beyond, had just gotten really creative with many, many memes. I was drowning in Biddy Blas memes.” He went on to say the experience was “overwhelming”.
