The team behind God Of War: Laufey have confirmed the release of the spin-off has been delayed by three months.
Announced earlier this year, the upcoming God Of War game moves away from Kratos’ story. Instead the game focuses on his wife Laufey, who died at the start of the 2018 God Of War Reboot and now must make her way through the afterlife of the gods. “Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk,” reads an official description of the game. “To save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the Everywhen, where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic.”
God Of War: Laufey had been set to launch February 16, 2027 for the PlayStation 5 but last night (November 4), game developers at Sony Santa Monica confirmed that they needed more time to work on the title.
“Since the reveal of God Of War: Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans,” the studio wrote in a statement. “With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God Of War: Laufey‘s release to May 20th, 2027.”

“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential. On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon.”
However some fans have pointed out that God Of War: Laufey is now skipping a packed February release schedule, with big titles such as Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis,Fable, and Final Fantasy 14: Evercold all currently set to launch around the original Laufey date.
God Of War boss Cory Barlog also confirmed a Kratos-starring sequel to both Laufey and 2022’sRagnarok will follow the spin-off. No further details about the project were shared. “While [God Of War: Laufey] is a different thing, it’s still part of the larger tapestry of what we truly want to explore [with] all these different characters in there,” explained Barlog in an interview in June. “But there’s always going to be Kratos games throughout the whole history.”
Earlier this year, Laufey actress Deborah Ann Woll responded to the backlash she’s received from some fans about Kratos’ absence from the new God Of War game and her Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio has also defended her. “Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as a whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. “I am a fan of God Of War [and] I for one cannot wait to play the new game with my son.”
