Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has promised that the company isn’t going to increase the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 anytime soon.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched last year with a recommended retail price (RRP) of $449.99 in the United States, €469.99 in Europe and £395.99 in the UK. In May, Nintendo confirmed the console would be getting more expensive “in response to various changes in the market environment and after reviewing future global business prospects.”

The RRP of the Nintendo Switch 2 is now $499.99 in the US and £419.99 in the UK. “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disruption caused to our customers and all parties involved due to the price change. We appreciate your understanding,” Nintendo added at the time.

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed the second price hike for the PS5 in less than a year while the cost of Xbox consoles has also been increased. “Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027,” Microsoft explained.

However Nintendo boss Shuntaro Furukawa has said, during a recent earnings call, that the company is “not considering additional changes” to the price of a Switch 2. “There has been no major change to the memory situation and Nintendo is in a position to secure sufficient quantities,” Furukawa added (via Reuters).

It’s been reported that Nintendo has sold more than 23 million Switch 2 consoles since it launched last year. Yesterday (November 5) hundreds of fans attended a midnight launch of its most recent exclusive game, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake.

The title is one of the best-reviewed video games of all time. In a five-star review, NME wrote: “Rather than a cheap cash-in to take advantage of The Legend Of Zelda’s milestone birthday, this remake of Ocarina Of Time feels loving and retains the spirit that made the original so adored. Sure, it’s millennial nostalgia-bait, but the pretty graphics, expanded world and polished soundtrack will help a new generation to see why so many consider this the greatest video game of all time.”
