Square Enix have announced details of a new 40th anniversary Final Fantasy vinyl, featuring songs from every mainline game in the long-running series.

The original Final Fantasy was released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment system, with players taking control of The Warriors Of Light to save the world from the Elemental Fiends. Since then, 15 mainline sequels have followed alongside numerous spin-offs, remakes and adaptations.

To mark the imminent 40th anniversary of the fantasy role-playing series, developers Square Enix have announced ‘The Crystal Vinyl Edition’. The double LP features “one carefully selected song from each game in its long history, from the original Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy 16.”

“Moments of epic journeys, bonds of friendship, battles against formidable enemies, and unforgettable farewells – the melodies that have coloured these various stories have transcended the boundaries of the games themselves, and have been passed down in the memories of many people,” the product listing continues. “This album is a commemorative release that traces that 40-year journey through music.”

The ‘Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Vinyl Edition’ tracklisting is as follows:

SIDE A
‘Main Theme’ (Final Fantasy)
‘Rebel Theme’ (Final Fantasy 2)
‘Eternal Wind’ (Final Fantasy 3)
‘Love Theme’ (Final Fantasy 4)
‘The Battle on the Big Bridge’ (Final Fantasy 5)
‘Searching for Friends’ (Final Fantasy 6)
SIDE B
‘One-Winged Angel’ (Final Fantasy 7)
‘Force Your Way’ (Final Fantasy 8)
‘You Are Not Alone’ (Final Fantasy 9)
‘To Zanarkand’ (Final Fantasy 10)
SIDE C
‘Ronfaure’ (Final Fantasy 11)
‘East Dalmasca Desert’ (Final Fantasy 12)
‘Flash’ (Final Fantasy 13)
SIDE D
‘Power Descending from the Heavens’ (Final Fantasy 14)
‘Somnus (Instrumental Version)’ (Final Fantasy 15)
‘Away’ (Final Fantasy 16)

‘Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Vinyl Edition’ is available to pre-order now from Square Enix Japan, and is expected to ship in January 2027.

Square Enix have also organised an anniversary orchestral concert tour, which kicks off in March. ‘Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy Eternal / 悠久’ will celebrate the enduring music of the series’ iconic composers, including Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura, and Masayoshi Soken.

“HD videos created by Square Enix accompany the music, celebrating four decades of Final Fantasy and the evolution of video game technology,” reads a press release. Check out tour dates and tickets here.
